Transportation Planning/Analysis
The project is located in the northwest quadrant of the Interstate 10 (I-10) and I-8 interchange. Due to the Union Pacific Railroad along the northern border, I-8 along the southern border, I-10 to the east and the Casa Grande Canal traversing through the southern portion of the development, providing a grid type roadway network was difficult. SWTE worked with the project team and the City of Casa Grande to develop a transportation network that not only served the needs of the development, but also addressed the City’s need for major arterial roadways in the southern portion of the City. SWTE developed a regional traffic demand model in TransCAD to predict traffic volumes in and adjacent to the Coyote Springs Development. The analysis involved the development of various transportation networks (and traffic demand models) to account for a possible future traffic interchange on I-8. A traffic engineering report summarizing the results of the analysis, including recommended roadway cross sections and traffic control devices to accommodate the projected traffic volumes for both the opening year and project build-out, was prepared and submitted to the City of Casa Grande for review/approval. SWTE has participated in the presentations of the project to the City Planning and Zoning Commission and City Council. |
